Industry Is Serious About Corporate Responsibility
Corporate responsibility is an underlying principle of Canadian industry. Marketing safe products is not only the responsible thing to do; it makes good business sense. Nowhere is this more evident than how seriously Canadian industry takes its responsibilities concerning the safety of its products.

Canadian industry is as concerned about the safety of the products they manufacture as is the Canadian public. Companies - including our employees and shareholders and the communities where we operate - demand that the substances that go into our products be safe to human health and the environment during manufacturing and when they are used.

Canadian industry has made significant investments over many decades in the quality of their products and the reputation of their brands. It only makes good business sense to ensure the public’s continued trust in the products they use and enjoy

Canadians should be proud that they have the highest standards of product safety in the world. This is based on a long and successful history of collaboration between government, industry, and consumers. Overall, Canadian manufacturing processes are governed by over 400 federal and provincial pieces of legislation, as well as thousands of regulations and self-imposed standards – all of which Canadian industry meets or regularly exceeds.

Industry applauds the government for being the first and only country to undertake a comprehensive review of all substances in commercial use as a basis for informed decision making. This achievement deserves national attention.

Industry has an obligation to Canadians to ensure product safety and our resources are fully committed to this effort.

Canadian industry is committed to protection of the environment, enhancing human health and the quality of life through the responsible formulation, production, and sale of high quality, safe products.

As such, if the government decides that current levels of use and application of specific substances need to change to protect people and the environment, industry will not hesitate to comply.
